THE ARCADE

Is it possible to trace a strategy that is able to reactivate spaces characterized by a condition of social stillness?

Academic Project
2018

By highlighting how the absence of interest is able to reduce the activities of certain public realities, the work carried out during the studio gives a possible solution to a contemporary issue: the disappearing of the commons in the contemporary cities. Very often bad conditions in terms of preservation and apathy towards social and economic context lead to the decline of those realities that in the past played an important role within the city.

The object of the research is Galleria del Corso. Despite the fact that it’s located along Corso Vittorio Emanuele its features are completely different from the one of the well-known Galleria Vittorio Emanuele. The aim of this experimental work is to discover a way of reactivating the multicultural flux of users through the understanding of the causes that transformed the gallery from the “Piccola Broadway” to a public passage.

According to different actions and timing the project is organized in steps and tries to trigger a changing able to invert the process of the capitalistic society, leaded by economic interest. The final output is a permanent design intended to respect the tradition and to consider all the actors of this dynamic effective players of the game.
